UNCHANGING TRUTH IN A CHANGING WORLD
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today and forever. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines, for it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.” Hebrews 13:8-9
COVID-19 is changing our world, but it will not change our resolve to persevere in our pain by the strength that comes from trusting in the Lord’s unchanging love. COVID-19 is changing our healthcare system, but it will not change the sweet soul care from the Spirit in the harshest of times. COVID-19 is changing our economy, but it will not change God’s economy of generous giving when the needs are the greatest. COVID-19 will not change our hope in Christ!
Jesus does not change—He is truth, so in our changing world we can embrace the one who never changes and who holds us with His loving arms of grace and truth. Trustworthy. Like a good shepherd who cares for his sheep, especially when danger lurks or predators prey. Or a father’s calming love when fear is in full fury, or a mother’s compassion when pain strikes her offspring. Jesus Christ is the same as the day He saved and forgave us—when the peace of God flooded our soul. All hell can break loose around us, but heavenly trust brings a calm assurance within us. Trust the one who has never let us down, nor will ever let us down. Be secure in Christ’s unchanging love!
“I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.” Psalm 143:6-8
Has change or the threat of change diluted your faith in God? If so, shift your trust from an ever changing pandemic and rest in your never changing Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Just as Jesus spoke to nature during a fierce storm and calm descended onto the disciples in the boat, so the Holy Spirit still speaks today to call down peace into hearts broken but still believing in God. Inner resolve to persevere in prayer is strengthened by the grace of God. There is never a shortage of respirators of righteousness to help us inhale peace and love and exhale fear and anxiety. Swap complaining for empathy and concern for others. Become an answer to prayer.
Take a deep breath, turn off the noise, and say a prayer for the medical professionals on the front lines with their lives on the line. Change is here and change is coming, but those who take to heart the unchanging truth of God are those who will adapt to good change and resist unhealthy change. A Spirit filled life responds in love and resists reacting in fear. Where faith resides fear (reverence) of God comes into focus in loving worship.
Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like as garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou are the same; and thy years shall have no end. The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.” Psalm 102:25-28
Prayer
Heavenly Father, keep my eyes of faith fixed on your unchanging son Jesus Christ, in His name, amen.
